I am making this blog to collect my thoughts surrounding a pair of playlists I have running on Spotify right now. The two playlists are titled Songs that get stuck in my head when I am high and Songs that get stuck in my head when I am sober . I wish I could provide links to the folders that these playlists belong to in Spotify, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that.
I was born in 1989, and growing up through the nineties I spent a lot of time recording songs off the radio, or random sounds I was making. After the nineties, I made mix CDs for everything. Every mood, every girl that crushed me, and every genre that I enjoyed had a mix made in honor of it. Each one of these mixes was curated to flow in a certain direction, and to convey whatever feelings I was feeling as perfectly as the music I pirated or ripped from CDs could. It has been one of my favorite pastimes, and maybe the only pastime that has remained through my entire life.
The playlists I am presenting to you here in this blog are in no way curated by anything but the frequency in which the songs pop in to my head, and whether or not I am sober. The only reason sobriety has anything to do with this process, is because it seems like I remember in great detail (lyrics and what not) songs I haven't heard in over a decade when I am high. Its not always the case, of course, but it happens more frequently than when I am sober I've noticed.
I seperate the playlists by the 24 hour periods, so any songs that pop into my head during any given day will get put into a playlist. Somedays its only a few songs, and sometimes its a really, really bad song, but no matter what I am going to catalogue here the weird places my head goes musically.
